The Miss Universe Organization has announced that the 72nd edition of the pageant, Miss Universe 2023, will take place later this year in El Salvador, known as the Land of Volcanoes. The announcement was made by the country’s President Nayib Bukele during the 71st Miss Universe final competition in New Orleans. In his statement, the President highlighted the many beautiful aspects of El Salvador, including its world-renowned surfing beaches, magnificent volcanoes, and delicious coffee. He also mentioned that El Salvador is now considered the safest country in Latin America.
The 71st Miss Universe competition was held in New Orleans and saw R’Bonney Gabriel, Miss USA, take home the crown. The pageant is under new management headed by Thai billionaire Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip, a transgender woman, who aims to focus on important concepts such as gender equality and women’s rights, rather than just physical beauty. Gabriel will replace Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu, who won the previous year.
As the Miss Universe 2022 winner, Gabriel will spend the next year working with the organization and will be based in Thailand, where the pageant’s world headquarters are now located. The official date and venue for Miss Universe 2023, which will be El Salvador’s second time hosting the pageant, have yet to be announced. As many Filipino beauty queens have participated in the Miss Universe and a Filipino won the pageant in the past, we urge our English-speaking readers to stay tuned for the official date and venue of Miss Universe 2023 to be held in El Salvador.
